For example, I have the Kanji symbol for faith because my whole life I have been through one tough time after another and what's gotten me through those experiences was having faith in the people I love and having the faith that everything would get better. Faith is what keeps me going everyday. So pick something close to your heart, that way you will always love the tattoo and cherish it's meaning. I have a tiger and it means the world to me, I got it to remind me of my baby boy that passed a few years ago, but others may think its over the top and has nothing to do with them. You should take your time and think about it and make sure it is something you will love years to come because it hurts worse to have it removed! I have had mine for 5 years now and I still look at it in amazement, I am so in love with it. Also make sure you go to a place you can trust and a place that will be patient with you. You can go into the place and look at designs that you may like to get an idea and if you dont see anything you can have a drawing made of one and they can do it that way. I have heard of people getting the same tattoo as someone else in their family has, usually a parent or a sibling who is very close. I have several tattoos, all of which I thought about for a long time (at least a year) before committing to.
