The Octo Mom Gets Inked

  Nadya Suleman

Ever since Nadya Suleman gave birth to her octuplets the media is constantly all over her. Not only does she have the only living set of octuplets but she also has 6 other children putting her total at 14. She doesn’t have a job and hasn’t for sometime and she isn’t married let alone seeing anyone. She receives constant criticisms from society because of bringing her octuplets into the world even though she already had 6 children. She is also ridiculed for being a bad mother and trying to cash in on her instant fame, even though she is always denying she doesn’t want to be in the spotlight.

Nadya Suleman Tattoo

Then there is her uncanny resemblance to the beautiful Angelina Jolie, the big pouty lips, the long straight black hair and of course her 14 children. However, Nadya insists that she has always looked this way but that couldn’t be farther from the truth. Earlier pictures of Nadya have proved that she hasn’t always had those pouty lips. Well Nadya has now added something else to compare her to the lovely Angelina Jolie. Nadya got herself a tattoo over the weekend. She didn’t go the same route as Angelina and get the longitude/latitude coordinates of the birthplaces of all her children inked on her arm. Instead Nadya got a tattoo on her back. She travelled quite a distance to Kustom Kulture in Hollywood to get her ink. She got a fairly large angel on her back that is surrounded by 14 stars. Of course it is being assumed that the Angel is Nadya and the 14 stars represent her 14 children.

Tattoo Artist Have The Right To Say No

 Tattoo Artist at Work

Believe it or not tattoo artist have the right to say no when it comes to tattooing someone. However, this usually doesn’t happen too often but certain tattoo artist do refuse to tattoo certain tattoos, mainly racial tattoos, hate tattoos or gang tattoos. Tattoo artist also have the right to not tattoo a certain part of your body. If an artist says no, than you have to respect that and come up with an alternate plan or find an artist that will tattoo the body part you want tattooed.

tattoo artist

Strangely enough some tattoo artists feel so strongly about not tattooing a certain body part that they will indeed turn down the business. So one may wonder what’s the big deal. Some tattoo artist feel that having a facial tattoo or tattoo on your hands or neck is a big responsibility and they don’t to be held responsible for their client not being able to get a job down the road or the ridicule they will have to deal with from society so some artist just refuse to do it. Also some artist don’t like tattooing feet and hands because its a quality issue. Hand and feet tattoos don’t hold up as well as other tattoos because they are constantly going through physical “abuse” because those are the two ares of your body that are under the greatest amount of physical abuse as a result of normal everyday life. So some artist feel its a waste of their work, they are also aware of those tattoos needing to be touched up more often than a tattoo on your ankle, back, leg or arm.

So if you run into this problem with your tattoo artist don’t get mind just try to understand they are passionate about their work.

Henna Tattoos: Mehndi Pattern Designs

Henna tattoos and Mehendi pattern designs have moved on from the palms of the hands and feet, to the arms and belly. A look at what makes Mehendi tattoos a rage across the world.

Henna Tattoos: Mehndi Pattern Designs

When Madonna displayed Mehendi tattoos on the palms of the hands in her music video, ‘Frozen’, it caused a phenomenon and suddenly Mehendi tattoos became a trend for the MTV generation. Mehendi or Henna tattoos originated from the ancient Indian body art. Henna is actually a tall shrub that grows in the hot and dry climates. The leaves of the plant are powdered and made into a paste. Mehndi is the application of Henna on the skin. After leaving it for several hours, it leaves an orange mark on the skin as per the design. This painless and temporary form of tattooing is finding many takers and its popularity is definitely on a rise.

Henna Tattoo

In India, Henna is used to create intricate ethnic or contemporary designs and exotic patterns on the palms and feet of women (for special occasions and ceremonies).Women also proudly display these tattoos on various other parts of the body like the arms, back, belly etc. to have an edge over others. Henna tattoos blend well with traditional Indian outfits as well as urban wear.

Today, there are tattoo studios all over the world with specialized henna tattoo artists. From intricate bridal work to arabic henna design. Most studios have portfolios that can help the customer choose his/her preferred style or form. Even men have joined the bandwagon to obtain a cool look!
Henna Tattoo on feet

Now-a-days, pre filled henna paste is available in cones. This helps in skipping the messy way of mixing henna. All you need to do is cut the tip of the cone. This forms the nozzle and the henna cone can easily be maneuvered to form the design you wish. The best thing about Mehendi or Henna tattoos is that it is not a lifetime affair. A few weeks later and you can move on to new design. Mehndi designs are now rivaling traditional tattoo designs in terms of their popularity.

There can be no Indian wedding without the Mehndi. The bride’s hands are always decorated with the reddish orange hue of the mehendi. The traditional pattern involves a lot of delicate detailing with fine, thin lines for lacy and floral. This covers the entire hands, forearms and feet and can be a little time consuming. Traditional Mehndi patterns have seen an evolution of late. Henna is also known to have a cooling property when used on skin and can also be used on the hair to get a tinge of red.
Henna Foot Tattoo

The art form of Henna application varies from religion to place. These designs hold different meanings as per the culture of the place it originates from. Good health, wisdom, spiritual enlightenment is symbolized through various designs.

For the workaholics having no time to spare for tattoo studios, there are stencils available in the market that are designed to make life easy for you. You can choose from simple but bold designs to adorn your belly or arm. Henna can be applied over the stencil and left to dry. Simply peel off after an hour. It can also be kept overnight for better coloring on the skin. Add some body glitter for some glitz or use paintbrushes to blend in more colors for different effects.

Do avoid ‘black henna’ or ‘African henna’ as it is known to harm your skin. Henna is never black, hence ‘black henna’ contains harmful chemicals that is dangerous and inappropriate for your skin. African patterns are bold or have geometric shapes, Henna always colors in orange, red, reddish brown or coffee colors and never black. It is always better to do a patch test before you actually go in for the tattoo.

Apart from using cones or stencils, one also found that the Indonesian and Southern Asian styles applied the use of Middle Eastern and Indian designs using blocks to color the tips of their toes and fingers. Not a very popular form, these blocks do not give the effect of a traditional Mehndi or modern Henna tattoos.

So, if you are really commitment phobic and fear the needle, then the mehendi or henna tattoos are apt for tattoo lovers all across the globe. Experiment and have fun.
